1. THE REMAKE DESIGN CHALLENGE  EXISTS TO:

The Live Eco Remake Design Challenge is a sustainable design initiative brought to you by Pick n Pay in partnership with The Cape Town Fashion Council. The idea behind the competition is to inspire young designers to think more sustainably and holistically when it comes to their creations and instill an element of eco-consciousness into their design skills. The 2015 first laureates will receive awards for their creative and original work based on the theme. The Judging  is based on coherence with the theme, creativity, sustainability, marketability & craftsmanship.

Briefing: 26 March, 2015
Submissions {Round 1} : 01 May, 2015
First judging session: Early May, 2015
Finalists posted online: 08 May, 2015
Garment & object construction deadline: 03 August, 2015
Photo shoot: Early August, 2015
Final judging session: Early August, 2015
Prize giving & design installation: 13 August, 2015

3. GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION 2015:

The Remake Design Challenge is open to any fashion*, interior or industrial design student at an educational institute in the Western Cape or emerging designer with less than 3 years industry experience, aged 18 or above {as of application closing date 01 May 2015}.

*Fashion students MUST be in their 2nd year or above.

Candidates must design their own original projects completely by themselves & designs may not have been seen in public previously.
Candidates must follow the design and specifications outlined in their application for realization of their final project.
Registration must be submitted on an individual basis.
Online registration, applications, and final projects received after the deadlines will not be accepted.
Projects selected in the Remake Design Challenge Final 2015 cannot be presented in another South African competition during the year 2015. Projects selected in the Remake Design Challenge Final 2015 cannot be exhibited and published without the written mention: selected or awarded for the Live Eco Remake Design Challenge 2015.

4. RULES & REGULATIONS FOR REMAKE DESIGN CHALLENGE 2015:

1st STEP March 16, 2015: Online registration begins to design a capsule collection {3 looks} using the outlined sustainable design techniques, according to this year’s theme for the FASHION category. OBJECT category candidates need to design a living room object using the outlined sustainable design techniques.

2nd STEP May 01, 2015: Deadline to receive all submission applications. The application materials should be completed as listed below:

{FASHION}

  • 1 page for the developed concept or mood board illustrating the theme, inspiration and colour of your entire competition collection.
  • 1 page for each look’s illustration
  • 1 page for each look’s technical drawing based on one or more of the sustainable design techniques outlined above. {Your artwork must clearly demonstrate how the sustainable design technique(s) is/are being applied to this outfit.
  • 1 page for your pattern & clearly state which part of the outfit the pattern is for. Include the exact measurement of the textile(s) in cm. FOR ZERO WASTE PATTERN CUTTING OR DRAPING TECHNIQUE ONLY.
  • 1 page for the fabric and material swatches
  • 1 page for images & details of original textile selection {incl. type & source} before cutting or alteration
  • 1 page for written concept {max 100 words}
  • 1 page CV of applicant
  • 1 page for 3 brief written statements about your aspirations

{OBJECT}

  • Name of the object
  • Brief explanation of the concept behind the design {max 100 words}. You may include concept sketches to explain your design process. Your artwork must clearly demonstrate how the sustainable design technique(s) is/are being applied to this object.
  • Images & details of original material selection {incl. type & source} before cutting or any alteration
  • High quality, large realistic 3D rendering of your object (computer generated or hand drawn),
  • Relevant technical drawings of the object, showing all details and measurements.

YOUR ENTRIES MUST ALSO INCLUDE:

  • 1 page CV of applicant
  • 1 page for 3 brief written statements about your aspirations

3rd STEP May 08, 2015: The candidates invited to continue on to the Remake Design Challenge Final will be announced on the website, along with instructions and specifications for completion of the final projects.

4th STEP August 03, 2015: Deadline for all selected projects to be received. Late projects will not be accepted under any circumstances.

5. EXCLUSION CLAUSE:
Entries will be automatically disqualified from the competition for the following reasons:

If the final project does not follow the design or specifications outlined in the candidate’s original application.
If they are received after the deadline.
If they may result in any copyright infringement or legal dispute for the jury, organizers, sponsors, or college.
If they pressure for preferential treatment by the jury members, the college, the organizers, or sponsors of the competition.
 Applications and Final Projects will be judged by experts and well-known professionals from fashion, design, media, and other fields. In all matters concerning the course of the competition, including the selection of award winners and settling disputes, the decisions of the judges are final. All matters will be decided by majority vote and are not subject to appeal. In case of a tie, the President of the Judging Panel will cast the deciding vote. Candidates will be presented anonymously to the first round Judging panel by the competition organizers. Judging deliberations will not be made public.

6. PROTECTION OF WORK:
Candidates maintain artistic ownership of their designs and final projects. By the act of participating in the Remake Design Challenge, candidates give permission to the organizers and sponsors to contact and promote them and their projects through a wide range of media: press, TV, internet, mailing, advertising, exhibitions, fashion show, etc… for a period of twelve months following the Final. Winning projects cannot be presented in another South African competition for twelve months following the Final. If a winning project is exhibited or published in any media, mention of the Live Eco Remake Design Challenge is required.

7. AMENDMENT SUSPENSION TERMINATION INSURANCE:
In the event the Live Eco Remake Design Challenge 2015 is suspended or terminated for any reason, the organizers, as well as the sponsors, will not be held responsible in any way. 
Live Eco and its members, volunteers, guests and instructors, and the colleges will not in any way be responsible for any accident, damage or loss of the final projects or candidates’ belongings during the course of competition, including workshops, masterclass, conference, exhibition, transportation, and all events. It is the responsibility of the participants to insure their submissions.
